Abdominal pain caused by exhaustion, excess dryness and cold (Yin and Yang deficiency, increased Vata)
Factors that may cause or aggravate dry and cold abdominal pain:
- Over-exertion (physical work, exercise, sexual activity, riding)
- Staying awake during the night
- Drinking very cold water
- Poor combinations of foods
- Overeating
- Eating at irregular hours
- Eating legumes, fresh hard vegetables, crackers and other foods that are very drying
- Eating lots of either bitter, pungent or astringent foods
- Eating lots of sprouts
- Dried meat, sausage
- Overeating of fresh leaves
- Oppression of natural urges
- Excessive and prolonged worries and anger, stress and tension
- After medical operation
- Fasting
- Eating inappropriate foods after fasting
- Excessive talking
Possible symptoms:
- Pain in one or more of the following areas: stomach, back, ribs, bladder
- Stabbing pain, may be accompanied by swelling and gas that are not released easily
- Constipation
- Urinary retention or difficulty passing urine
- The pain increases after digestion when the stomach is empty, in the evening, in cloudy and cold weather. The pain may increase and weaken regardless of external factors, suddenly becomes stronger, suddenly diminishes, dynamic and changing
- The pain is reduced by warmth, lubrication, and a warm and oily diet.
Treatment:
Warm up the body (warm clothing, wet sauna), give the digestion a little rest by eating small and simple meals, sleep / rest in the middle of the day, early sleep at night, and apply local lubrication and warmth to the abdomen. Maintain an oily diet and warm, well cooked, easy to digest meals based on the following ingredients:
- Basmati rice, pearl barley, thin bulgur, white semolina, shredded oats, white flour bread or chapatti.
- Fat hen / Goosefoot (Chenopodium album) or Epazote(Chenopodiumambrosoides)
- Ferula assafoetida (Hing)
- dry ginger powder
- Fennel seeds, all types of anise
- Cloves
- Cooked garlic
- Hot water
- Lemon juice
- Castor oil
