Malabsorption is the inability to absorb the nutrients from the food into the body. This digestive ailment can stem from a number of different causes including low digestive acid or enzyme production, inflammatory digestive conditions, recurring parasites, malnutrition by a diet rich in processed foods or undernourishment by a lean diet, and eating disorders. Each type of malabsorption requires its own comprehensive assessment. However, there are many techniques that can be followed to promote more efficient absorption, starting with eating a diet that is right for your body type.

Digestion needs time, so by eating too fast and running off to the next obligation, digestion doesn’t get the chance to thoroughly breakdown and absorb. Make time to eat in a pleasant atmosphere, chew your food well and concentrate on your food only. Spare a few minutes to breath and relax before running off.

Cooked food eaten warm will always digest easier and absorb better than raw food.Eating a diet of easy to digest foods, particularly meals that have been cooked for long periods of time, such as in a slow cooker, will greatly benefit weaker digestion and poor absorption.

To further slowdown the transit of food in the intestines, eat less fiber in your diet. Peel your vegetables, fruits and consume polished grains and legumes*

Before each meal, chew and swallow a slice of fresh ginger, with a dash of lime/lemon juice and rock salt,to stimulate blood flow to the stomach and increase the secretion of digestive acid and enzymes.

Use regularly spices that benefit absorption: Cumin, Caraway, Coriander seeds, Nigella, dry Ginger powder, Turmeric and Nutmeg.

Sipping hot water or herbal tea (made of the spices mentioned above) throughout the day between meals boosts digestion and can aid absorption.

Malabsorption is often related to chronic loose stools, so it is important to stay hydrated and replenish electrolytes regularly, by sipping small portions of vegetable soup between meals or as an appetizer.

There are many herbal formulas that can aid absorption, which need to be tailored for each individual according to the reason for malabsorption and diagnosis*
